About Me

My name is Julie Brocklehurst and I am the mother of an adorable little boy named Brennen. Brennen has a diagnosis of cerebral palsy, seizure disorder, and cortical visual impairment. You can read Brennen's story here.

My partner, Andrew and I live in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. We spent five years running a child care program for children with special needs. You can read about that here - Little Tulips Family Child Care, and I was previously the Executive Director of the Cerebral Palsy Association of Newfoundland and Labrador. We now spend our time caring for Brennen and two foster children, who fill up our lives and our hearts more than I can tell you.

I have created this blog as a place to share some of my thoughts and feelings about life, love and the unexpected journey of raising a child with special needs. I write honestly, and I write from my heart. I write so that other parents of children with disabilities know they are not alone. This journey has given me a different perspective on life, and I want to share that with others.

My hope is for this blog to become a resource for other parents, to help you through your journey with your little one, and to bring hope and encouragement to the special needs community. With your help, we can build a world that is better prepared for Brennen and children like him.

As part of my 'Tulip Tales' series, each month I feature a different child with special needs and share their amazing story. Please read, share and follow. You might find yourself inspired by the incredible lives of some truly remarkable children!
